David Johnson is currently Deputy Director of the Melbourne Institute where he is leading the social economics program. David has previously worked with the Victorian Department of Agriculture and the Victorian Department of the Premier. He is co-editor of the Australian Economic Review. David has written many reports, journal articles and chapters in books. His journal articles have been published in the Australian Economic Review, the Australian Bulletin of Labour, the Review of Marketing and Agricultural Economics and Australian Economic Papers. He has conducted a large number of projects for a wide range of organisations in the public and private sector including the Bureau of Industry Economics, the Industry Commission, the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Economic Planning Advisory Council, Telecom, the Municipal Association of Victoria Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs, the Australian Council of Trade Unions, the Australian Council of Social Services and many others. Most recently David co-authored Trends in the Distribution of Cash Income and Non-cash Benefits published by the AGPS and undertaken for the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. He has considerable experience in economic impact studies and the evaluation of employment and industry effects from changes in the economic environment.
