Who we are

The International Social Science Survey is an academic public opinion survey by the International Survey Center.

• The International Survey Center, founded in 1984, is non-profit and not connected with any business, political party, or lobby group. It is a collaborative enterprise by academic researchers originally at the Australian National University and the University of Melbourne, and now in the USA, Poland, and Australia

and

• We collect and analyze survey data from large, representative national samples in many countries and publish regularly in leading academic social sciences journals, as well as contributing to public debate

• Reports to Australian respondents: Attitudes to inequality; When does life begin?; Church and happiness.
• Chapters from our books: Why is education rewarded?; Attitudes toward evolution.
• Articles from leading academic journals: National context and Religious Belief; National Pride.

This survey

This survey is mainly about attitudes toward medical research using stem cells.

• It starts with a few background questions on science and genetic engineering.
• Then come detailed questions on different aspects of cloning and stem cells.
• It goes on to some of the things that shape attitudes on these issues.
• It ends with background items and a few questions on other current issues.

A lot of this is new, complicated, and surprising. We will explain everything carefully, but it is a demanding survey, no doubt about that. It takes about 22 minutes on average, more for some people and less for others.
