CODEBOOK APPENDIX: ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT

All users must acknowledge the Research School of Social Sciences for
financial support of the survey. For articles in academic journals, this should be
in the first footnote; for other types of publications, in a corresponding
appropriate place. A suitable form would be..
"Data collection was supported by a grant from the Research School of
Social Sciences, the Australian National University."

ACKNOWLEDGMENT FOR THE BASIC DATA

All users of these data must name the survey in text and acknowledge the
principal investigators for the basic design and data collection. This citation
must be a reference in text in conventional academic form, supported by an entry in
the bibliography. This allows us to trace use of the survey through the Social
Science Citation Index.
For the social sciences, a suitable form would be...
     [citation in text]
... data used are from the National Social Science Survey, Inequality-I:
Preliminary Release. (Kelley, Evans, and Bean 1989).
     [supporting entry in bibliography]

Sciences, Australian National University.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT FOR USE OF QUESTIONS BY PARTICULAR AUTHORS OR SPONSORS

Some modules in the survey were designed by specific authors, or sponsored by
outside sponsors, and so require specific citation in addition to that for the
survey as a whole. These questions are noted in the codebook, and the specific
citations given there. The citation should be a reference in text in conventional
academic form, supported by an entry in the bibliography. Detailed bibliographic
citations are given at the relevant point in the codebook above.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT FOR USE OF THE SECONDARY ANALYSIS FILE OF INTERNATIONAL DATA

Use of these data (in file "AJS93ALL.ZIP", described in section
10 of the codebook) requires citation to the article in which
we originally developed and used the spss that makes these
variables, and also to the original investigators for
